Additional Information

Treating with Natural Stone

Flagstone, Sandstone and other porous stones are very susceptible to erosion and “sanding”.   Stone Armor penetrates into the stone and does not allow water to fill in the voids, which extends the life of the stone.  Heat, sun, and water exposure will accelerate the erosion. We recommend treating and resealing your stone annually depending on your individual environment. Sealers do not last forever.  Resealing is determined by traffic, stone porosity, and most importantly, Mother Nature.  Resealing the stone will refresh the look of the stone and extend its life.  Due to the penetrating properties of Stone Armor, subsequent treatments require significantly less product to reapply.

When to reapply Natural Stone S&E

Natural Stone S&E provides color enhancement and sealing to most porous surfaces.  As with all sealers, it also deteriorates over time, mostly dependant on direct sunlight and abrasion (traffic).  Treated stone that is on a vertical surface will last 2+ years.  Stone that is in full sun on a well used pathway around a pool can require reapplication annually.  Depending on how much “pop” you want your flagstone to have, you can reapply as frequently as you see fit.

Touchup Treatments

Individual pieces of stone can be dissimilar from the piece next to it.  Touchup treatments with Natural Stone S&E  are easy if a certain piece happens to erode or flake it will cause the deteriorated sand to “clump” together in larger flakes, versus deteriorating just to sand, causing the typical “sanding”. This makes touchups convenient and low maintenance.  Simply clean the stone either by power washing or a high pressure hose, let dry completely, and then reapply Stone Armor to seal the stone.

Best Practices

We recommend spaying Natural Stone S&E on horizontal and vertical surfaces with a  garden style hand pump sprayer..  Spraying it allows the product to saturate the porous stone.  Using a roller for any puddling will pick up any excess product and allow you to move it to other areas.  Take your time and work the product into the stone from all angles to ensure complete saturation.

Surface temperature should be between 50F and 80F. If the surface temperature is above 80F, Natural Stone Sealer and Enhancer may cure too fast to ensure saturation.  Optimal time to apply is in the morning or out of direct sunlight.
